Though the federal government oversees Veterans Affairs, Olympia can encourage improved solutions for those who served. Vets shouldn't have to endure hours-long trips to the Mann-Grandstaff VA hospital in Spokane. Utilizing satellite clinics, telemedicine, and other options can enhance the lives of our veterans. We can, and should, do more.
Recognizing the value of quality education is crucial. However, Olympia's insufficient 100% funding for schools raises concerns. Many districts face financial hurdles for improvements, especially in growing towns. Legislators must prioritize forward-thinking education solutions to simplify access in Washington. If elected, I'm committed to addressing this issue.
Being on the Springdale Town Council taught me that small towns face budget constraints. Consider dilapidated buildings; it's challenging for towns to address hazards without the means to force property owners to act. Even if they demolish and file a lien, it may go unpaid for years. Aging infrastructure is another financial hurdle. I aim to advocate for Olympia doing more for our small towns if elected.
Access to quality healthcare is challenging, especially for disabled and elderly residents. Vision, dental, hearing, and mental health care are often inadequate. Specialist wait times can extend to months. For those in northern Ferry, Stevens, or Pend Oreille counties, reaching Spokane takes hours. Exploring incentives for telemedicine and new clinics could address these issues. If sent to Olympia, I'll assess healthcare concerns and work towards practical solutions for our residents.
